Yoga Bolster Rectangle Black

A rectangular yoga bolster sits flatter and steadier than a round one, and this black version is a good all-round prop for restorative yoga, breathing practice and meditation. It measures 66 x 26 x 15cm and weighs 1.3kg, with cotton batting inside and a soft microfibre cover.

The cover comes off for washing and there’s a carry handle. With a flat top and bottom, it doesn’t roll when you lean on it. That makes it a good fit for lying on for long periods.

How to use it

For breathing practice (pranayama), lay the bolster lengthways on your mat and lie back along it so it supports you from the lower back to the back of the head. The flat top gives a gentler lift through the chest than a round bolster. Rest your arms out to the sides, palms up, and let the breath slow down.

If your lower back feels pinched in that position, slide down a little so your hips are on the floor and the end of the bolster starts at your lower ribs. A folded blanket under the head helps if your chin lifts.

After practice, turn the bolster across the mat and rest the backs of your knees on it for savasana. For seated meditation, sit on the edge with your legs crossed in front of you.

Care

Unzip the microfibre cover and machine wash it on a gentle cycle, then let it air dry before refitting. The cotton-filled inner doesn’t go in the wash; wipe it with a damp cloth if it gets marked.
