This purple zafu meditation cushion is made for sitting, but it’s also a firm, round prop for yoga. It measures about 40cm across and 20cm high, holds around 2.8kg of buckwheat hulls, and has a soft microfibre cotton cover that zips off for the wash.
Buckwheat fill gives the zafu a denser, more solid feel than a cotton-filled cushion. It shapes itself to you and then stays in that shape, and the carry handle makes it easy to move from the meditation corner to the mat.

How to use it
For meditation, sit on the front edge with your legs crossed in front of you, so your hips are higher than your knees. Rest your hands on your thighs.
On the yoga mat it doubles as a small bolster. In reclined bound angle, lie back with the zafu under your upper back and a blanket under your head. In a seated forward fold, sit on it to raise your hips. You can also rest your forehead on it in a wide-kneed child’s pose or put it under your knees in savasana.
Because it’s round and heavy, it doesn’t roll far. It’s shorter than a full bolster, though, so for poses where you lie along the length of your spine, a 66cm or 70cm bolster works better.
Care
Unzip the cover and machine wash it on a gentle cycle, then let it dry fully before putting it back on. The buckwheat stays out of the wash. Every so often, give the cushion a shake and knead it with your hands to loosen the hulls, and keep it somewhere dry.
For a longer prop in the same colour, see the purple rectangular bolster. The zafu also comes in red and other colours in our yoga bolsters and cushions.

This is the second zafu I have bought from you. I love the first one! The fact that you can wash the cover is great, especially since I live in Fiji where things get dirty very fast. Also, that you can remove whatever amount of buckwheat and customise the height and density of the cushion. Really a brilliant product for someone who meditates a lot.

Great service, thanks – fast dispatch and good communications about order status. The buckwheat filling gives me a sturdy foundation – it doesn’t shift at all during my 45-minute meditation sessions – keeps me in an upright posture and it’s a comfortable seat for all that time too. Thanks to the previous reviewer who mentioned being able to remove some of the husks to customise height/density of cushion – I did the same to make it just right for me. It’s also beautiful to look at and really nicely made and designed. Highly recommend.
