A block is handy well beyond standing poses. The high-density foam, rated at 40C hardness, is firm enough to sit on, which makes this a good block for seated practice and meditation.

How to use it

Sitting cross-legged on the floor for more than a minute or two is hard work if your hips are tight. Sit on the edge of the block so your hips are a little higher than your knees. Your pelvis tips forward, your lower back can lift, and your knees can drop towards the floor. If your knees still hover, rest each one on a folded blanket or another block.

For kneeling poses, place the block between your feet and sit back on it. That takes some of the bend out of your knees in hero pose and lets you stay upright for breathing practice. Turn it on its side for more height if you need it.

In seated forward folds, sit on the block with your legs out in front. The lift lets you hinge from the hips with a longer back instead of rounding over. Loop a strap around your feet if your hands don’t reach them.

Care

A damp cloth after use is enough. Use a drop of mild soap if it’s been sat on during a long session, then let it air dry away from direct sun.
