The Back Accu Point Stretcher Ab Mat is an arched back stretcher made from high-density EVA foam and covered in firm but flexible spikes. It measures 30cm by 25cm by 10cm and weighs about 400g. You lie on it with the curve under your back and let your upper body rest back over the arch for a gentle stretch.
A lot of the day is spent leaning forward, over a desk, a phone or a steering wheel. Lying back over the arch takes you the other way, into a small supported backbend, while the spikes press into your back.
Specifications
| Size | 30cm x 25cm x 10cm |
| Weight | About 400g |
| Material | High-density EVA foam |
| Surface | Firm but flexible spikes |
| Shape | Arched |
How to use it
- Put it on a mat or carpet. A bed is too soft and the stretcher can tip.
- Sit on the floor with the stretcher behind you, then lie back so the arch sits under the part of your back you want to stretch, usually the middle or lower back.
- Rest your arms by your sides or overhead and breathe slowly. Start with a minute or two.
- To get up, roll onto your side first.
The spikes feel sharp the first few times. A thin towel over the top softens them while you get used to it. If you have a back injury or a spinal problem, check with your doctor or physio before using it.
If you like the spikes, an acupressure mat and pillow covers your whole back, and our acupressure mat guide explains how people use them. More small kit is in our yoga accessories.
Care
Wipe it with a damp cloth and let it air dry. A soft brush clears dust from between the spikes.
