This Bloom yoga mat is the heavier, 3.25kg member of the Bloom family: a polyurethane (PU) top on a natural rubber base, 183cm by 61cm and 5mm thick. PU gives a smooth, slightly soft surface that grips well whether your hands are dry or sweaty, and the rubber underneath keeps the mat flat on the floor so it doesn’t bunch up or creep during a flow.
It comes in black or grey.

Who it suits
Anyone who slides on a foam mat halfway through class should try PU. It suits vinyasa and power yoga, where you move in and out of downward dog many times, and warm rooms where palms get damp.
5mm of rubber is firm. You’ll feel steady in standing balances, with a moderate amount of padding under knees. If kneeling poses bother you, fold a blanket under your knees for those.
At 3.25kg this is a mat to keep at home or leave at the studio. Carrying it to class every day is doable with a strap, but it’s noticeably heavier than a TPE foam mat. The Bloom yoga mat in blue has the same size and materials at 2.8kg, in blue, pink and white.
How to use it
Unroll it PU side up and give it a minute to settle flat. The grip is there from the first session, so there’s no need to scrub or salt it to break it in. Wipe it down afterwards so sweat doesn’t sit on the surface.
Care
Wipe the PU surface with a damp cloth after each session, especially after a sweaty one. Avoid oils, vinegar and strong cleaning sprays, which can leave the top patchy or sticky. Let it dry flat, roll it with the PU side facing out, and keep it out of direct sun. PU picks up marks and fingerprints easily, so a mat in regular use will show where your hands go.
