Meditation Set

This meditation set gives you a whole floor seat in one order: a zafu cushion to sit on, a flat zabuton mat to go under it, two knee cushions and a bag to carry them in. The outer covers are cotton, the zafu and knee cushions are filled with buckwheat, and the zabuton has a sponge filling. It comes in black, burgundy or purple.

How to use it

Lay the zabuton flat on the floor. It’s the base for everything else and keeps your ankles and knees off a hard surface. Put the zafu towards the back of the zabuton and sit on its front edge, then cross your legs in front of you.

If your knees don’t reach the zabuton, slide a knee cushion under each one so your legs have something to rest on. Many people find they can sit longer once their knees are supported. The knee cushions also work under your ankles when you kneel. At 20cm high the zafu gives a fair amount of lift, which helps if your hips are tight.

Who it suits

It suits beginners who want everything in one go, and regular meditators replacing an old set. If you only need a cushion, the Bloom buckwheat zafu is sold on its own. Care

Spot-clean the cotton with a damp cloth and mild soap. Keep the buckwheat pieces dry, since damp hulls go musty, and air them in the sun from time to time. Pack everything in the carry bag when you’re not using it.
