Zafu Meditation Cushion Round Black

Our round black zafu meditation cushion is the second most popular colour we sell, and black suits a shared meditation room or studio where cushions get stacked in a corner. It’s about 40cm across and 20cm high and weighs around 2.8kg, with buckwheat hulls inside a microfibre cotton cover.

The cover is soft, removable and machine washable, and there’s an external handle for carrying. You can use it as a yoga bolster too.

How to use it

The Burmese position is a gentle way to sit on a zafu. Sit on the front half of the cushion, bend both knees and bring one heel in close to your body, with the other foot on the floor in front of it. Both knees rest on the floor or on a blanket. Your legs aren’t stacked, which many people find easier than full cross-legged.

The height is adjustable by hand. Buckwheat can be pushed around inside the cover, so press the middle down for a lower seat or gather the hulls up for a higher one. If you sit for long periods, try shifting some of the fill toward the back so the cushion slopes forward.

If 20cm is too high and your feet go numb, try a lower seat such as a folded blanket, or a meditation bench if you prefer kneeling.

Care

Take the cover off and wash it on a gentle cycle. Hang it to dry. Keep the buckwheat inner dry, and fluff it up by hand when it starts to feel flat.
